The last several weeks have been slow on Lake Amistad. The most consistent bite has been with suspending jerkbaits in 5 to 7 feet of water targeting small coves off the main lake and main lake flat points. These areas are typically yielding 1 to 3 pound fish with an occasional 5 to 6 pounder.
Larger fish are coming off Texas rigged and Carolina rigged soft plastics in 12 to 15 feet of water on the main lake flats. Good signs that larger females are starting to move to the open water flats and humps to spawn.
Downsizing the lures offered and working creek drains along grass lines and points will still produce good numbers of smaller fish with the random 5 pounder mixed in.
Fair numbers of smaller fish are being caught from the backs of major creeks. These are typically post spawn fish chasing shad. Lures resembling injured or frightened shad are the best choice for these fish.
High winds have kept most anglers from exploring the deeper humps and open water areas.
